What is your website made of

There are some key terms you may have heard which describe elements that make up your website. Here we define a few.  This is by no means an exhaustive list, but explains a few terms you may come across when talking about websites:

Domain Name: this is the easy to read name of your website. For us it's carbon-pixel.co.uk. People will type or click this to get access to your website.

Hosting: this is the space on a web server where your website sits. When people enter your domain name, it’s here that they are taken to view your website.

HTML: this stands for Hypertext Markup Language and is the code which sets the structure of your website, i.e. headings, paragraphs, tables etc

CSS: this stands for Cascading Style Sheets and this is the language which sets the colours, fonts etc of your website. HTML and CSS are independent of each other but work together to display your website as intended to your visitors.
